Our Mission
The people of Mount Calvary exist to serve God.
We try to work in union with other Lutheran and Christian churches to glorify our Lord Jesus and to witness to him in our community and world.
A large part of our mission is to affirm to people God's grace for them, his call to them to share his grace with others,
and to offer help and training so that they may learn to do his bidding in their own lives.
About Mt. Calvary
The first service was held in the Lutheran Chapel, now called Mount Calvary, on July 23, 1944. Mount Calvary was formally organized December 10, 1944;
however, the charter membership roll was not closed until February 1, 1945 with
109 members. We began as a mission congregation of the United Lutheran
Church in America and the Central Pennsylvania Synod. In 1962, the ULCA
was one of the four Lutheran bodies which merged to form the Lutheran Church in
America (LCA). As a result of a subsequent merger, we are now a member of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the Allegheny Synod. We
are also one of seventeen congregations forming the Johnstown Conference of the
Allegheny Synod.
